Designer Anya Ayoung-Chee has opted out of showing at this year’s Fashion Week Trinidad and Tobago, becoming the second major designer to pull out of the annual fashion fiesta.
“I don’t like how they (FWTT) handled things last year – the way they dealt with the models was a bit unethical,” Ayoung-Chee stated. The PILAR/Anya de Rogue designer told TLb she will show her new collection at the end of May, joining Meiling and a few other local designers at the Caribbean Fashion Trade Mission being hosted by JLC PRoductions at the Carlton Savannah. Repeating her departure from last year’s Fashion Week, Meiling also announced her intended absence from this year’s shows. Meiling instead showed her Noir collection at last year’s be. fashion event, staged by special events outfit Antilia, which provided an eclipsing, albeit stylish, intro to the magenta-coated Fashion Week 3, and also featured Anthony Reid and Anya Ayoung-Chee, along with New York transplant Va$htie Kola and t-shirt designer Nick Salloum.
With Meiling and PILAR out, so far we can confirm that Christian Boucaud, The Cloth, Claudia Pegus, LisaLaurie and Shaun Griffith-Perez intend to grace the runway at Adam Smith Square. No word yet on dates for model casting or whether designers will be charged a show fee.
