Among a handful of friends and Twitter followers, at Dr!nk Wine Bar, Woodbrook on January 6, Trinidad Lookbook’s Editor-In-Chief, Mel Gabriel, previewed the fashion journal’s inaugural print issue, titled Lookbook.
The debut cover story features Wendy Fitzwilliam (looking very much unlike the composed beauty queen), shot by prodigy Mark Gellineau, talking about her role as host of the upcoming model-fest Caribbean’s Next Top Model. Including a four-page interview with Project Runway winner Anya Ayoung-Chee, Lookbook’s highly-anticipated December/January issue presents an undeniable design quality, blending stunning fashion editorials and savvy content.
“We started online, but decided to zag a little bit,” said Gabriel. “Everything now is so digital – so we took stock in the newfound luxury of print, without the luxury price tag for our readers.” The retro move by the publication, which has operated online only since 2009 and reaches 20,000 readers across the globe, offers readers a periodic refinery of the regional fashion industry, with style tips, event fashion and trend reports.
“Lookbook has always focused on highlighting emerging industry talent and celebrating the veterans in the region. We have fantastic talent in the Caribbean, so I’m excited to be part of a publication that’s dedicated entirely to fashion and that lifestyle.”
